Crossing into barbarian territory

We left Augsberg and headed north with some trepidation for we were to cross the Danube (Donnau in German), leaving the protection of the Roman Empire and entering a world of barbarians.  So, we were nervous as we approached the river.  Would the Roman legions let us through?  Would we see scores of slathering blathering barbarians on the north bank of the river?  Had we packed our broad swords to deal with the obstacle?

As it turned out, our only problem was finding a place to pull off to mark this momentous occasion.  We actually passed the river by several miles before resolving our debate as to whether to turn back for photos or not.  One point of view was that time had not been allotted earlier in the day for other historically significant events such as gelato.  However, a vote was taken (1 for and one against) so we reversed course for these important photos, in which you can see the Danube just barely if you really work for it.

Those who spot the Danube win a prize!*
