Day 3 in Dixie continued: the Mobil Bay Bears

Mobile is an awesome town!  More on that tomorrow.

The Bay Bears, however, don't do the town justice.  We had a good time at Hank Aaron Stadium nonetheless, but it isn't nearly as good as Riverwalk Park Montgomery, either in atmosphere or energy.

The Bay Bears were playing the Biloxi Shuckers, and unbeknownst to us they were playing a double-header to make up for a rain-out.  So, we got to see 1.5 baseball games (they started early).  The Bears took care of business in game 1, winning 7-2.  We saw about 3 innings of that game.

The place was a little flat, though.  It doesn't help that the stadium is about 7 miles out of town, behind some malls.  The food selection was bad (no biscuits!)

The second game was all Shuckers, 6-0.  Javi Salas for the Shuckers (from Coral Gables FL) threw nothing but heat all game.  I mean, REALLY nothing but fast balls.  But he threw them well, and most outs were fly balls.

Remember this name, though:  Evan Marzilli (from Danvers Mass.).  Bay Bears lead-off hitter.  He's going to be something.  He had two of the Bears' three hits in the game, and hit the hell out of the ball in the first game.  Batting like 400 for the season.

Two good things:  the National Anthem singer was better than the one in Montgomery, and it was Thirsty Thursday ($2 beers).  Consequently, there were some awesome hecklers that got better as the game went on.  We stuck it out to the bitter end.

Probably not a good omen for the Bears, their starting pitcher was Billy Buckner (any Red Sox fan knows the significance).
